Renting a luxury house for an adult shoot.
A luxury home sells the scene before anyone walks into frame. The best ones for adult production combine architecture and natural light with privacy from neighbors, room for the crew and an owner who has approved the shoot in writing. Here is what to check before you book one in Los Angeles.
What to look for
- Light. Large windows and open plans give soft daylight and fewer lights to rig. Note which rooms face which way and when they get direct sun.
- Several distinct sets. A living room, a primary suite, a kitchen and an outdoor area give you different looks in one booking day.
- Clean backgrounds. Minimal decor, neutral walls and no family photos mean less to move and less to blur.
- Sound. Homes away from busy roads and flight paths save retakes.
Privacy and the pool
A pool or garden is often the reason to book a luxury house, and also the easiest place to cause a problem. At the homes we list, scenes must not be visible to neighbors or the street unless we approve something else in writing before the shoot. Walk the yard line by line: second story windows next door, gaps in hedges and anything visible from the road.
The practical side
- Parking. Count the vehicles and confirm where they can go. Productions here follow our parking instructions.
- Power. Ask about circuits before you plug in lights and air conditioning together.
- Crew limit. Every home has one, counting cast and crew together. It is shown on each home page and confirmed in your approval.
- Load in and out. Stairs, narrow halls and delicate floors change how long setup takes.
- Paperwork. General liability insurance, records under 18 U.S.C. 2257 and any permit the shoot needs. FilmLA calls it a myth that no permit is needed on private property.
Questions to ask
- Has the owner agreed to adult production in writing?
- Which rooms and outdoor areas can we use, and during what hours?
- How many people can be on set?
- What happens if something is damaged?
- Who is on site or on call during the shoot?
